What to Look for in a Beard Oil or Cream

Your beard is awesome, let no one tell you otherwise. But if you’re looking to go that extra mile and find the perfect beard moisturiser, you’re in the right paws.

#BeardGang – Why Use Beard Lotion?

We know that sometimes choosing the best product for the job can be a little confusing, especially when there’s so much conflicting information out there. That’s where Bulldog comes in!

Take a beard oil for example, you just want a simple a straightforward product to get the job done and get the job done well. No one wants to wade through a load of scientific papers or get a chemistry degree to find out what works.

For those of you who can grow a beard, first of all, you’ve lucked out. We all know that beards are soooo right now [in best Devil Wears Prada voice] so that’s great for all those style mavens out there. But, even if you care not for the fickle tides of fashion, they’re also great if you have neither the time nor inclination to shave on a regular basis.

While we’re not suggesting that you suddenly add in a seven-step beard grooming regime or start sleeping in some sort of moustache hair net (unless that’s what floats your boat of course) but a little bit of love can go a really long way. So say goodbye to itchy, unruly whiskers, ditch the coconut oil for beard (ya basic) and strap yourself in for a facial revelation.

Soften Your Beard

The hairs on your face can differ to the ones on your head (much thicker and coarser). This is great for keeping our chins nice and toasty in the colder months but can also make beards scratch & itchy (as opposed to itchy & scratchy). Just imagine; if your beard creates any discomfort on your face, just imagine how it must feel to anyone else that comes into close contact with it ?

Our Original Beard Oil has been specially formulated to soften, tame & condition the beard. It helps to make the beard less itchy (always good) and is fast absorbing, meaning no greasy looking aftereffects.

Style Your Beard

One of the joys of having a bath as a child was covering your face with bubbles and pretending you had a massive beard, then goatee, then moustache. Just us? Nah, thought not. For some people that’s carried through into adulthood, wanting a soft beard (but with hair this time, not bubbles) and to adopt different styles.

If you’re looking for a hard-working product then our Original Beard Balm should be your first port of call. An all-in-one moisturiser, conditioner and styling aid to leave your beard healthier looking.

How much product should I use?

Exercise restraint, one or two drops of Original Beard Oil per application should be enough when used regularly. Similarly a pea sized amount of Beard Balm is plenty at a time. If you start using to much and piling it on your beard it’s going to go greasy and oily no matter what you use.

When should I use a beard moisturiser?

It’s really important to use your beard products properly to get the best results. There no point using a beard cream on hairs that haven’t been properly washed. Use a Original Beard Shampoo as part of your morning shower routine and allow to dry as you get dressed, drink a coffee or whatever it is you need to do to get ready to face the world in the morning. Then add your beard product before leaving the house, groomed and ready to go.

How frequently should I use a beard lotion?

How often you need to apply a beard oil or balm really depends on the thickness & length of your beard and the individual thickness and coarseness of your beard hairs. So, Experiment! Start off slowly (2 – 3 times a week) for 4 weeks or so and see if you need to up the frequency.
