Starting Your Day with Healthy Skin
Whether you’re an owl or a lark, sometimes the mornings are a struggle. Making healthy decisions for your skin is probably the last thing on your mind when you’re tempted to press snooze. A good morning routine for guys leads to productivity and organisation and we’re fully aware that usual morning rituals for men that you might have nailed is coffee, gym and shower, but have you ever thought about your skincare first thing? Here’s what we do, and it takes less than 5 minutes (we promise)!
Cleanse
Wash your face before or after you enter the shower. If you are a morning gym goer, cleanse after you’ve sweated. Lot’s of us make the mistake of cleansing in the shower but the high pressure and temperature isn’t great for the sensitive skin on your face. Facial skin can become too dry if there is too much contact with hot water. Wash your face in the sink with lukewarm water and if you’re particularly sensitive, our Sensitive Face Wash is fragrance free and non-drying- Perfect for an irritation-free cleanse.
Shave
Lots of us wonder whether we should shave morning or night and there’s no right or wrong answer to this. It completely depends on how quickly your hair grows and what your desired look is. Stubble is one of the most popular beard lengths so if this is your favourite look, shave at night. If you’re after a super smooth shave, then use a face scrub beforehand to lift any ingrown hairs up to the skin surface and use a shave gel with glycerin for a moisturising and smooth shave. Routine wise, shave post shower as the hot water will help to soften and raise the hairs on your face for a closer shave.
Moisturise
Hydrating your skin with a moisturiser is a non-negotiable part of a morning routine for guys (and gals)! In the morning, you should also use an SPF daily. Even when it’s not scorching hot, UV rays are always around as clouds can’t block them and they are the main cause of premature skin ageing. A minimum of SPF 15 is recommended for everyday wear. Our hydrating Protective Moisturiser contains 9 essential oils, aloe vera, green tea and a broad spectrum SPF15.
Breakfast
There is evidence to show that certain foods can help you achieve healthy skin*. So, if you want to go the extra mile add these in to your morning routine:
- Walnuts: Contain omega-3 fats which help improve skin elasticity. It’s also a source of copper, which has been reputed to boost collagen. Add a few to your porridge.
- Spinach: Rich in antioxidants which help to protect the skin from free radical damage. Blitz these in to your morning smoothie or enjoy in an omelette.
- Pomegranate: Packed with polyphenols which help regulate the skin’s blood flow. This helps make your skin glow.
*Please note that diet alone is not enough to maintain healthy skin. You must still cleanse and moisturise daily!
