Love Your Lips: Yes, Men Can Use Lip Balm

Men pucker up just as much as women, so we decided to create a lip balm designed especially for them. Lip balm is used for giving moisture and smoothness to this often-ignored part of the face.

Good lip balms contain ingredients that hydrate lips and help to repair any damage caused by dryness. Let’s take a look at the top reasons why men should embrace lip balm, especially during the summer months.

Gives You Hydration

Lip balm is used for a lot of things, but relieving chapped lips is one of the biggest reasons people of both sexes keep it on hand. Chapped lips can happen throughout the year, either from a lack of humidity in the air during the winter, or exposure to the sun and heat in the summer months.

Our immediate reaction to dry lips is to lick them, but as you probably know, it doesn’t work. It actually ends up making things worse because saliva strips the lips of their moisture, making them even more uncomfortable.

Man with smooth skin

The best lip balms for dry, flaky lips, should contain ingredients that soothe. Our lip balm contains cornmint, also known as Japanese mint, and has some of the same properties as peppermint because it contains all that oh-so-soothing menthol.

Preventative Care

Lip balm is used for preventative care among other things. If you use it regularly, it can keep your lips soft and moisturised in the first place. A good lip balm works by giving your skin a layer that seals in existing moisture rather than loading your lips with new hydration.

Strangely enough, lip balm could actually make your lips worse some lip balm ingredients should be avoided by some. Strong scents and flavourings can irritate the skin or cause allergic reactions, including dryness and irritation.

How Else Can You Keep Your Lips Feeling Good?

Lip balm is one thing, but there are lots of little ways you can keep your lips feeling good and without irritation. It’s important to look at your whole lifestyle as there are lots of little influences you might not think have an effect on your lips.

A few suggestions:

  • Drink lots of water!
Keeping your body hydrated helps your skin no end, including the sensitive skin on your lips. We know you know how important it is to drink water, we don’t need to tell you, but this is just one more reason why it’ll help
  • Use a humidifier
Maybe it’s not a reason to rush out and buy one, but if you’ve already got one then you should definitely keep it on at night. This will replace the dry air indoors with a bit more moisture, and your lips will thank you
  • Cut down on salt and spice
We know salt and spice is very, very nice – but it also has an effect on your lips! Maybe cut your spicy wing portions down to three a week and opt for salt-free snacks if you can (we know it’s hard!)
